CSI 2010 Election Results

Results of the 2010 election, including proposed bylaws amendments and candidates for national and region office, are as follows:

CSI Bylaws Amendments

The membership approved the following Bylaws amendments:
  • Article III, Section 6: Authorizes CSI’s Board to conduct meetings via electronic means.
  • Article V, Section 4: Clarifies current and future election practices with regards to the roles of CSI’s election vendor and Tellers Committee.
  • Article X, Section 3: Allows for flexibility in the nomination and election of nominees for Distinguished and Honorary Membership with regards to each year’s administrative schedule.
  • Article XIII, Section 2: Deletes obsolete introductory membership language in the Bylaws.
While the amendment to Article IX, Sections 1 and 2, which proposed a single “Member” classification, received a majority vote, it did not receive the two-thirds vote required for a change in the Bylaws. The current “Professional Member” and “Industry/Associate Member” classifications will remain unchanged.

I do hope the membership bylaw amendment will be tried again, with more explanation and discussion. I was only aware of it because I attended a chapter leaders' conference call, where I got to hear its proponents explain their reasoning. Most of the rest of the membership probably didn't know about it until they saw it on their ballots. I find "Industry" and "Professional" both limiting and divisive, and eliminating that distinction will allow for real progress in how we see ourselves. The vote shows that, even without much discussion among the members, that the majority agrees. We can do this, and I think we should.

See a previous blog "A Rose Is A Rose" by Sheldon Wolfe (http://blog.csinet.org/default.asp?Display=179) (under Cumudgeon's Corner category) with comments by others for reasons why some members voted against this bylaw amendment.

I agree with Vivian that there should have been more discussion on this proposed amendment - pro and con.
