It is with great sadness that we report the passing of a member of the CSI family. MasterFormat 95, an icon of construction documentation, died December 31, 2009. He was 15. MasterFormat 95 came from a long line of recognized construction industry standard bearers, who exhibited leadership in their chosen profession for more than 40 years. He took the reins of the family business following the death of elder brother MasterFormat 88 in 1996, providing organizational expertise throughout his useful life.
MasterFormat 95 never married, although there were several rumored flirtations over the years with multiple companions, all known as Division 17. He had no children, but provided paternal support of 16 Divisions, numerous Sections and an extended network of Office Masters.
He is survived by a younger brother MasterFormat 04, who will carry the family standard forward. Other survivors include a niece and nephew, PageFormat and SectionFormat, cousins UniFormat and GreenFormat, and several members of the extended OmniClass family. He was predeceased by elder siblings MasterFormat 88 and MasterFormat 83.
The CSI/CSC family made a difficult medical DNR decision at a family meeting last June in Indianapolis. MasterFormat 95 lingered on life-support until December 31st when the plug was finally pulled.
Despite the request of GreenFormat that he be cremated and his ashes recycled; he was quietly laid to rest at a brief shelving ceremony in the Library Archive at CSI headquarters. Several memorial services were held around the country, at various family Chapters.
MasterFormat 95 will be sadly missed by many, especially those with a fondness for 5-digits and the number 16. In lieu of flowers it is suggested that we honor the family’s wishes to support MasterFormat 04.
